Independent Final Project
Process Statement:
I had a ton of fun with this project. It took a long time, but I think it turned out really well. I believe the portraits turned out very well and the project looks really good overall. I decided to do a portrait project because I don't really consider myself a portrait photographer, but after this project I believe my skills have improved a great deal and I am more comfortable shooting portraits.

Photo-Poetry
Process Statement:
I thought this project was fun and interesting, but it was challenging not to be cliche. I tried to make these more original by using quotes that I have heard my friends say, not the typical ones you hear everywhere. I also tried to use slightly different types of images for these quotes. I think I did a decent job with the portrait. Because she is the one who said the quote and the portrait is different than many I think it is one of the more powerful. The one of the footprint is very cliche, but I wanted to have one like that so I could show the contrast of the others.
Magazine cover
Process Statement:
I thought that this project was really fun. I liked trying to make an image look professional to the point it could be sold by the masses. For this project I tried to emulate a specific cover of Vogue. I think I did a pretty good job with this, yet keeping it my own work. I think that this project helped me understand what it would be more like to have a career as a photographer. I really enjoyed this project.
Photo Walk 4/20
Process Statement:
During the photo walk my goal was to document my experience. I did this by taking pictures of things I saw at different places. I tried to show contrast and focus mostly on objects, but I didn't really have a specific style or goal otherwise. I feel like I was able to show the experience, but I don't think it is anything amazingly special.

Photo Installation (Title: Making Time)
Process Statement:
I loved this project. It was really fun to work with different media and find my creativity by using a theme that I care a lot about. I chose to work with time because I think that our lives are filled with moments and are defined by how we spend the time we are given. The idea of this piece is that time is telling time which is telling time. I really tried to show how the time we have is what defines our lives by all of the aspects of time in the piece through the different media. I think this project really helped me find my creativity and thoughts about being an artist.

Faces of GW
Process Statement:
I had a hard time at the beginning of this project because I am not very good at talking to people. I eventually started to get people to take pictures of by basically telling anyone who came to the door of the photo lab to sit down in the studio and let me take a picture of them. Once I started to find people to take photos of, it became really interesting and more fun to learn their stories and to see how I could show personality in the photos I took. I believe that I did capture personality in the photos I took, which makes me really excited and proud of myself as a photographer.

Landscapes
Process Statement:
The definition of landscape photography is photography of the environment taken outdoors. I should have thought more about this project because I would have then had better photos, but I understand more about what landscapes are meant to be. The theme I saw in my work was "a closer look at nature" I tried to take images of the environment, but close up so you could see the detail better. I also played with photoshop some in order to show the simple beauty of some images.

Photo Walk
Process Statement:
This was a one day project in which we walked around some pretty desolate parts of the neighborhood around the school. Our only job was to take photos. These are some of my favorites. While I wasn't able to really find a theme in all of my images, I think that I learned to appreciate natural beauty by looking closer at things, and to question the perceptions of nature as in the second image: Why aren't we walking on the path which is clearly there for our use?

Light Painting Project
Process Statement:
Instead of using a flashlight to "paint," I worked with a partner and used a different technique. We drew with white and metallic colors on black paper then took a long exposure image while running a light over it. The light caught the color and shows the image. I wish we would have had more time to make the images more elaborate and to play with camera techniques, but overall, I am very proud of this project.

Exquisite Corpse/Mr. Potato-head Project
Process Statement:
This project was interesting. We were each asked to take three images. Then we cut these images up and distributed them around the class. Finally we had to make a collage out of the image pieces we were given. I'm not sure this is my best work, especially since I didn't have glue, but I do think I did decently with this project. I really like the images I took. My idea behind the collage was to try to show "close ups" of some of the objects that may not have matched. While this isn't my best work, I really had fun with this project. I like working with paper and glue/tape rather than Photoshop sometimes.
Denver Postcard
Process Statement:
In this assignment I had a really hard time deciding an aspect of Denver I wanted to change. I love this city and found that I could accept the problems that other people see because of this love, so I tried to find an issue in Denver. I thought that traffic is something that is not so great. Not only is it very annoying, but it causes pollution that destroys our beautiful state. The image on the left, and some others on the contact sheet, is meant to show the issue of traffic being covered up by something. In this case it's the love of Colorado. The image on the right is meant to show the beauty within something that may be considered a problem. This is the way I view Denver, as something that is not perfect, but it is beautiful. This is the same image of traffic with a much slower shutter speed so that it looks like the beautiful light streaks that I see.

Toys Come to Life
Process Statement:
The requirements for this project were to make toys look life (or larger than life) sized. I had many ideas about how to do this, but It was very challenging finding ways to have a rubber duck sit in a hammock without my hand in the picture. I finally decided to stop making the project so elaborate, and I focused on making the duck look big. I believe the right image turned out well and shows the duck as both predator and prey, and definitely showing the size of the duck. The left image is my favorite, I wish I could have made the background blurred more, but I think it is really cool that a duck could be reading a book, and I am really glad I was able to capture this image. Overall, this project was fairly challenging, but it was fun and required me to be creative, which is not always my strong suit.

Process Statement:
To complete this project, we were asked to photograph an egg in order to make it look sublime as well as creative. My idea behind the sublime egg was a beauty shot. I treated the egg as if it were a model; I put it on a black background and used a spotlight to make it look perfect. Then, I let my partner, Katie, do what she does best, be creative. For the creative egg, Katie drew fish and some lily pads in a pond. I colored the tiger fish and put the googly eyes on, because googly eyes are awesome. We first tried to make the creative egg look like a model as we did with the sublime egg, but them we decided that because it was creative, why not showcase the hand that created it. There wasn't a whole lot of thought that went into this project at the beginning, but as we went along, it definitely turned out in a great way.
